Science Simplified Engaging Approaches to Teaching Complex Concepts in my classroom
Teaching science effectively is not just about imparting knowledge but also about making
abstract concepts relatable and accessible to students. Throughout my teaching journey, I’ve
explored and integrated various creative methods to simplify complex scientific ideas,
ensuring my students grasp and retain these concepts with ease. Some of the practical tech-
niques and tools I use are flash cards, pinwheels, dominoes, Tarsia puzzles, working models,
laminated sheets, and DART (Directed Activities Related to Text), to create an engaging and
simplified science learning experience.
Flash Cards Quick Revision and Active Recall
Flash cards have been a
staple in my classroom for
revising key scientific
concepts and terminologies.
By creating flash cards with
definitions, diagrams, and
questions, I encourage Active
Recall, a powerful method to
reinforce learning. For example,

made the students match the
correct term with its formula. Students work in pairs to quiz each other, making the revision
process interactive and fun. This technique not only enhances memory retention but also
builds confidence as students become more familiar with the content.
