Test for presence of starch and Protein

Steps to Test for the Presence of Starch:

Take a small portion of the food item to be
tested (e.g., a potato, bread, or rice). Put the
sample on a clean plate or in a test tube.
Add few drops of iodine solution to the
sample. If starch is present, the sample will
turn blue-black in color. If no starch is present,
the iodine will remain yellow or light
                                                                    brown.
Steps to Test for the Presence of Protein:

Take a small portion of the food item (e.g., milk, egg white, or pulses). Put the sample in a
clean test tube. Add a few drops of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution to the test tube.
Next, add a few drops of copper sulfate (CuSO ) solution to the mixture. Gently shake the
test tube to mix the solutions well. If protein is present, the mixture will turn violet or
purple. If no protein is present, the solution will remain blue.
